Areas and people

The valley has three connected areas. You start in Mosslight Hamlet. Fernwake Woods is through the path at the top of the hamlet, and the Moonlit Grove is behind a sealed gate at the top of the woods.

Mosslight Hamlet

Your home village and the safest place in the valley.

  • Your house (top left). Interact with the door to rest until the next part of the day. Resting also heals your Pokémon.
  • The mailbox beside your house holds a welcome letter from the Explorers' Guild.
  • The village square in the middle, with the well and lampposts.
  • The community garden below your house: eight plots in two rows of four. See Farming.
  • The pond on the east side of the village. Something glints in the sand at its edge.
  • Tall grass in the four corners of the village. Wild Pokémon live there. See who appears.

People in the hamlet

WhoWhereWhat they do
Elder WrenThe village squareWelcomes you and gives you your partner. Talk to Wren any time: if your Pokémon are hurt, Wren heals them all for free. Wren also tells you how many Pokémon you've caught and shares a tip.
MiraBeside the gardenRuns the garden and Mira's Market. Buys your berries, sells balls, Potions and seeds.
TomoBy the pondA kid trainer who battles you once a day. Tomo also knows when rain is coming.

Fernwake Woods

A big forest to the north, about twice the size of the hamlet. A stream runs across the middle with two bridges.

  • Lots of tall grass, in patches on both sides of the stream. See who appears.
  • Five berry bushes. Pick them for berries and seeds; each regrows a minute and a half after you pick it. See Foraging.
  • Four sparkles hidden around the woods, each a one-time find of seeds or berries. One of them holds a Moonfig seed, the only one you can find outside the Grove.
  • Ranger Ash guards the Grove gate at the top of the woods. Ash will battle you once a day, permit or not.
  • The Grove gate, sealed with glowing moon runes. It opens for an Expedition Permit.

Moonlit Grove

A small, enchanted glade lit by moonlight at every hour.

  • The shrine in the center. Read its carvings, and come back at night.
  • Crystals glowing around the clearing.
  • Two Moonfig bushes, the only bushes in the valley that grow Moonfigs, which fully heal a Pokémon.
  • A starlight sparkle with three Moonfigs in it.
  • Silver tall grass where Clefairy dance, and where a mythical Pokémon plays at night. See who appears.

The Grove is optional

The gate opens after you burn 100 $PVE for an Expedition Permit, which is recorded on your save. The hamlet and the woods, and everything in them, are free. You can still complete most of your Pokédex without the Grove: Clefairy and Mew live only there.

Wild encounters

Wild Pokémon only appear in tall grass. Each step you take in tall grass has a chance to start a battle:

  • Your very first encounter comes quickly: a 30% chance per step.
  • After that, it's an 11% chance per step.
  • There's always at least 3 steps between encounters, so you can get out of the grass after a battle.
  • You won't meet wild Pokémon if none of your team can battle. Rest or visit Elder Wren first.

Which Pokémon appears depends on the area, the time of day and the weather. Each area page lists the exact odds.
