FAQ and troubleshooting
Playing
Do I need a wallet or an account?
No. Open playpve.xyz and play. A wallet is only for the optional Grove permit and Supporter lantern.
Does it cost anything?
The game is free. The only optional cost is the 100 $PVE Grove permit, plus a tiny Solana network fee.
I can't find Vulpix, Oddish, Wooper or Mew.
They depend on the clock or the weather. Vulpix appears at dusk, Oddish and Venonat at night, Wooper only in the rain, and Mew only at night in the Moonlit Grove. Rest at home to skip ahead. See Day, night and weather.
Tomo or Ranger Ash won't battle me.
Each trainer battles once per in-game day, win or lose. A new day starts at midnight on the game clock; rest through the night to get there. If all your Pokémon have fainted, rest first. See Trainers.
Can I lose Pokémon, money or items?
No. If your whole team faints, you're sent home with everyone healed and nothing taken. See If you lose.
My party is full. Where did my new Pokémon go?
To your storage box. Open Party (Q) to send Pokémon to the box or bring them back.
Can I cancel an evolution?
No. When a Pokémon reaches its evolution level, it evolves after the battle.
How do I start over?
On the title screen, choose New journey. The game asks you to confirm before it erases your save.
Saves
Where is my progress saved?
In your browser's local storage, on this device. The game saves every 10 seconds while you explore, and after battles and menus. There's no account and no cloud save.
That means:
- Another browser or device starts fresh. Chrome and Safari on the same computer have separate saves.
- A wallet's built-in browser is a separate browser. Opening the game with "Open in app" in Phantom or Solflare starts a new journey there.
- A home-screen app on iPhone has its own storage, separate from Safari.
- Private or incognito windows usually forget everything when you close them.
- Clearing your browser's site data for playpve.xyz erases your save.
There's no way to export or move a save yet.
Is my Grove permit tied to my wallet or my save?
To your save. The permit is recorded with your progress in that browser. The burn itself is on Solana forever, but a new save or another browser starts with the gate closed.
Sound
There's no sound.
- Browsers keep pages silent until you interact. Press any key or tap the screen once.
- Press M, or open Menu → Sound, to check it isn't turned off.
- On an iPhone, the ring/silent switch can mute web pages. Switch it to ring.
- Check your device volume and that the browser tab isn't muted.
Wallets
My wallet won't connect.
- Make sure the wallet extension is installed, enabled and unlocked, then refresh the page.
- Watch for the wallet's pop-up. It may open behind the browser window. If you closed it, the row says "Not connected. Try again". Tap it again.
- If you have several wallet extensions, one may take over another's connection. Disable the ones you're not using, then refresh.
- On a phone, use Open in app to reopen the game inside Phantom or Solflare, or use Backpack's built-in browser. Phone browsers can't connect to wallets directly. See Wallets.
It says I don't have enough $PVE, but I do.
- Check that your wallet is on the account that holds the $PVE, and on Solana mainnet.
- Press Refresh in the Wallet screen to re-read your balance.
- The game adds up every token account your wallet has for the $PVE mint, so the balance should match what your wallet shows.
"Couldn't reach Solana"
The game couldn't talk to the Solana network. This is usually brief. Press Refresh in the Wallet screen, or try again in a minute.
The simulation failed.
The preview screen tells you why, and you can't sign until it's fixed. See the table of reasons.
My permit says "Pending verification".
Your transaction was sent, but Solana hadn't confirmed it before the game stopped waiting. Don't send another one. The game checks again every time you open it and opens the gate when it confirms. You can check the transaction yourself with the receipt link in the Wallet screen. See Pending verification.
I declined in my wallet by mistake.
Nothing was sent. Talk to Ranger Ash and choose Get a permit again.
Phones
The game looks too small, or the controls cover the screen.
Turn your phone. In portrait, the game uses a handheld layout with the screen on top and the controls below. In landscape, the game fills the screen. See Portrait and landscape.
Can I play without the browser bar?
Yes. Add the game to your home screen. See Install it as an app.
