Grove permit, step by step

The Moonlit Grove gate opens for an Expedition Permit. A permit costs 100 $PVE, which is burned: destroyed permanently, not paid to anyone. It's one of the items in the $PVE Market, and it works exactly like every other purchase there. The permit is recorded on your save and lasts forever, and you can restore it on another device from your wallet history.

What you need

  • A Solana wallet: Phantom, Solflare or Backpack. See Wallets.
  • At least 100 $PVE in it.
  • A little SOL for the network fee, about 0.0000062 SOL.

The steps

1. Go to the gate

Walk to the top of Fernwake Woods, where Ranger Ash stands beside the sealed gate. Talk to Ash, or face the gate and press A. The first time, Ash explains that the permit costs 100 $PVE, that it's burned forever, and that it's completely optional.

Choose Get a permit (100 $PVE). You can also choose What is $PVE? for a quick explanation, or Not now.

2. Connect your wallet

If no wallet is connected, the wallet list opens. Pick yours and approve the connection in the wallet's pop-up. Connecting shares your public address only. See Wallets.

3. The game checks your balance

The game reads how much $PVE your wallet holds. If it's less than 100, it tells you and stops. Nothing is sent.

4. The game prepares and simulates the transaction

The game builds the burn transaction and asks Solana to simulate it: a dry run that shows whether it would succeed, without sending anything.

5. You review it in plain words

A Review transaction screen shows exactly what will happen:

The token account address and mint are shortened, and each links to Solana Explorer. What each field means is explained on Wallet safety.

If the simulation fails, the screen says why and the Sign in wallet button is disabled. The usual reasons:

MessageWhat to do
Not enough $PVE in this wallet for this purchase.Use a wallet that holds at least 100 $PVE.
This wallet has no $PVE token account yet. This wallet hasn't received any $PVE, so there's nothing to burn. Use a wallet that holds $PVE.
Not enough SOL to pay the network fee.Add a small amount of SOL to the wallet.

Cancel closes the screen. Nothing has been signed or sent at this point.

6. Sign in your wallet

Press Sign in wallet. Your wallet opens its own approval screen. Check that it shows the same thing, then approve it.

If you reject it in the wallet, the game says "You declined the request in your wallet. Nothing was sent."

7. The game waits for Solana

The screen shows "Waiting for your wallet…", then "Verifying on Solana…". The game waits for the network to confirm the transaction.

8. The game verifies the burn on-chain

The game doesn't take the wallet's word for it. It reads the finished transaction back from Solana and checks that:

  • the transaction succeeded,
  • it contains an SPL Token Burn or BurnChecked instruction,
  • the burned token is the $PVE mint,
  • the burn was authorized by your connected wallet,
  • the amount is at least 100 $PVE,
  • and the memo receipt names the permit (pve:v1:permit:1).

It checks up to 8 times, 2.5 seconds apart.

9. The gate opens

Once verified, a "Permit verified" message appears with a receipt link to the transaction on Solana Explorer. The moon runes flare, the gate swings open, and the Grove is yours to explore. The receipt link stays in your Wallet screen (P) under Grove permit.

If it says "Pending verification"

Sometimes Solana takes longer than the game waits. The transaction was sent, but the game can't confirm it yet, so the permit is saved as Pending verification:

  • The gate stays closed for now, and Ranger Ash tells you the permit is still being verified.
  • The game won't let you buy a second permit while one is pending, so you won't pay twice.
  • Every time you open the game, it checks the pending transaction again, up to 12 times. When it confirms, you'll see "Your Grove permit is verified. The gate is open!"
  • You can check it yourself with the receipt link in the Wallet screen. See Verify a burn.

If the transaction turns out to have failed, or didn't burn the permit amount, the pending permit is cleared and the gate stays closed. The game says so: "Nothing else changed."

What's in the transaction

For the technically curious, the transaction has four instructions:

  1. Set compute unit limit to 60,000.
  2. Set compute unit price to 20,000 micro-lamports, a small priority fee so it lands quickly.
  3. BurnChecked of 100,000,000 base units (100 PVE at 6 decimals) of the $PVE mint, from your associated token account, authorized by your wallet.
  4. Memo (SPL Memo program) with the text pve:v1:permit:1, signed by your wallet. This is the receipt the game reads to know what you bought.

The fee is Solana's base fee (normally 5,000 lamports) plus at most 1,200 lamports of priority fee, about 0.0000062 SOL in total. There is no transfer to anyone, and no approval or delegation of your tokens.

Good to know

  • The permit belongs to your save, and your wallet keeps the receipt. It's stored with your game progress in this browser. On a new journey, a different browser, or a wallet's in-app browser, open the $PVE Market and press Restore purchases with the same wallet to get it back.
  • Burns can't be undone. Burned tokens are gone for good, for everyone.
  • One permit is all you need for a save. Once verified, the gate stays open.
