Controls

Valley Explorers works with a keyboard on a computer and with on-screen buttons on a phone or tablet. Touch controls appear automatically on touch screens.

To interact with something, walk up to it so you're facing it, then press A. That works for people, signs, the mailbox, garden plots, berry bushes, sparkles on the ground, your house, the water, and your partner Pokémon walking behind you.

In menus, use the arrow keys to move the highlight and A to choose. You can also click any menu option with the mouse.

During a catch, you can tap the game screen instead of pressing A to time your throw. Menus and dialogue options can be tapped directly.

Portrait and landscape

The layout follows how you hold your phone:

  • Landscape: the game fills the screen and the controls float over the bottom corners. The Menu button sits at the top.
  • Portrait: a handheld layout, like a classic game console. The game screen sits at the top, with text boxes, menus and controls below it, so your thumbs never cover the action.

The game switches to portrait when the screen is noticeably taller than it is wide, and back again when you rotate.

Install it as an app

Valley Explorers can be added to your home screen so it opens full screen, without the browser bar. It still needs an internet connection to load.

  • iPhone and iPad (Safari): tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
  • Android (Chrome): open the ⋮ menu, then tap Add to Home screen or Install app.
  • Desktop (Chrome or Edge): click the install icon at the right end of the address bar.

One save per browser

An installed app on iPhone keeps its own storage, separate from Safari. A journey started in Safari doesn't carry over to the home-screen app, and the other way round. See Saves.
